Success Story in North Asia

Overview

Hospitals are known to be one of the most error-free places in the world coupled with tight security. It is imperative that the patients are given the right treatment, correct medicine with the right dosage, and most of the time patients want their conditions to be kept away from third parties. So how do big hospitals, with thousands of patients, deal with such pressure?

SATO to the rescue

A well-reputed hospital in North Asia was facing problems with increasing number of patients and has an urgent need to keep everything in track. They approached one of our Business Partners for help and this is what has been offered:

Registration :Information like identification, medical history, allergies, etc. are recorded when a new patient registers. The SATO printers then print out labels that contain all these data which are then pasted onto the patient's folder and wrist band (if the patient is being admitted into the hospital). This enables the hospital to quickly and effectively recall the folder if and when the same patient was to be re-admitted.

Patient Tracking :Whatever treatment the patient is given will be handwritten on the folder by the doctor. SATO's system allows for the registration barcode label on the folder to be scanned as evidence that the patient has indeed been to that particular doctor and given the said treatment. This enables the doctors/nurses to be aware of the patient's condition in his future visits.

Samples : To prevent patients' samples (blood, urine…) from being mixed up, whenever a sample is taken, a SATO printer prints out barcode label which is then pasted on the container, which has resulted in a reduction of human error.

Drug Inventory : For drug control, all purchases are labelled with an in-house barcode sticker printed by SATO printers when they arrive at the hospital. This system is similar to an inventory tracking system where information like suppliers' name, name of drugs, usage, expiry date and etc. are recorded. With the SATO system, it prevents the staff at the dispenser counter from giving wrong or expired drugs. It also enables staff to keep track of diminishing stock for replenishment.

Pharmacy : At the pharmacy, drugs that are given to the patient are counter-checked by scanning the SATO barcode label which is pasted on the container. The pharmacist will only dispense the drug if the description that appears on his monitor fits the doctor's instruction and patient's condition.

Mission Accomplished

With the impeccable data collection system and labelling functions that SATO's systems offer, the hospital was able to function more efficiently and this has, in turn, increased productivity.
