SATO recommends users to regularly clean your printer to combat dust and dirt that gathers naturally on a printhead or platen roller, whereby it may reduce print quality and shortens the printhead’s life span.Optimal printing performance can only be achieved when the printhead is unobstructed from residue and debris.
Why printhead might have short life expectancy?
- Overriding the Printhead
- Excessive Abrasion
- Abusive Contact
- Electro-Static Discharge
- Impurities
Thermal print head technology employs a row of small heating elements. By turning each element on and off, heat can be transferred at various locations on thermal paper or carbon ribbons, to create printed images.
In view of this, print head buildup is a normal occurrence in thermal transfer printing. Ribbon residues, adhesive and label dust from a hard coating on the print head which does not let the heat transfer effectively can cause overheating that can result in premature failure of the print head.
