SATO’s Flagship Industrial Label Printer CL4-SXR Wins Red Dot Design Award 2026
SATO Corporation, a pioneer in the development of auto-ID and labeling solutions, announced today that its CL4-SXR flagship industrial label printer received the Red Dot Design Award 2026 in the Industrial Equipment, Machinery and Automation category.
The Red Dot jury noted, “CL4-SXR impresses with its efficiency and exemplary print results. The rounded shape blends naturally into the workplace.”
This marks the third time SATO has received the Red Dot Design Award, following previous wins in 2017 and 2020.
The CL4-SXR was developed under SATO’s “Simple & Solid” product design philosophy that aims to deliver universally usable products that are easy to operate, durable and reliable across different environments, industries, languages and infrastructures.
The CL4-SXR industrial label printer was developed with a focus on robustness, clarity and ease of use in everyday working environments. Curved lines and rounded edges characterise the clear and concise form, while colour-coded input and output areas as well as a large touch display facilitate operation. Parts of the housing are made from recycled materials. Thanks to its high label output speed and high print accuracy, the CL4-SXR significantly increases productivity in label printing tasks.

The Red Dot Design Award is an international design competition organized annually since 1955 by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Germany. Comprising three categories—Product Design, Brands & Communication Design, and Design Concept—it is widely recognized as one of the world’s three major design awards.

Recycled ABS resin is used in parts of the printer housing. The printer also incorporates a function that enables the first label—previously discarded during setup—to be printed without waste, contributing to more effective use of resources and a reduction in environmental impact.
