The earth and our environment deserve our protection, and one important strategy is to control waste generation. How can companies practice the 3Rs in areas like logistics, operations and production?
Let’s see how SATO in Singapore is taking proactive and regular steps for 3Rs, from the production floor towards cooperating with customers.

Reduce waste
Tackle waste at the start of the hierarchy

Before: SATO used carton boxes to transport labels and consumables supplied to a long-term key customer in Singapore, but this generates considerable waste over time.

> REDUCE PACKAGING WASTE: In partnership with our customer, SATO was able to use Returnable Transport Item (RTI) – reusable and foldable plastic containers for transport.
Reuse waste
Reuse multiple times without throwing something away, or use innovation to re-purpose it.

Situation: During label production, excess liner is generated as waste.

> REUSE for a NEW PURPOSE: the excess liner is not thrown away but served as cushions/ support to fill empty-spaces during packaging.
Recycle
Something that cannot be re-use anymore, can it be recycled?

Situation: Thermal Transfer ribbon rolls (which includes the core and the ribbon material) becomes waste after being used.

> RECYCLE RIBBON: SATO supports the recycling of Thermal Transfer ribbons. The components are separated, reused / re-produced into new ribbons.
